Are thinking about buying a jeep wrangler for yourself but not sure whether you should get one with a hard top or a soft top? One amazing thing about jeeps is their ability to wear a bunch of different tops and now with the invention of jeep top hoist, hard tops can be easily removed without the extra help. Below I will also list some pros and cons of both soft and hard tops so then you can decide what sounds better to you!

Hardtop

Pros: Protective, Secure, Quiet, and Sturdy

The biggest pro of having a hard top is that hard tops are the most durable out of all tops for jeeps. Since hardtops are more solid as well as stronger, means that they will usually also last longer. Hardtops will also provide more insulation and keep you warm from the chilly weather or keep you cool during the summer heat. Hardtops also provide a much quieter ride compared to a soft top, which is much louder. Hardtops also give you the option to install a rack to carry your outdoor essentials.  Hardtops also offer more security when it comes to thieves and protection for your belongings versus soft tops.

Soft Top

Pros: Easy to remove, portable and versatile

While hard tops can provide you with more protection in comparison to soft tops, soft tops are actually much more versatile. Soft tops are also easy to take off and put back on quickly without extra personal help. Soft tops are also foldable and are easy to store in your garage. One amazing pro of having a soft top is if you’re ever off-roading and it starts to rain, a soft top will allow you to quickly put the top back on your jeep and save the inside from getting wet.

Soft Top 

Cons: Louder and less protection

While soft tops are easy to put on and take off, there are also a few negatives to think about.  Due to less durability, soft tops need to be replaced more often than hard tops. On the positive side, soft tops are less expensive than hard tops, which can balance it out. Also since soft tops are more flexible means that they are less insulated. During the winter snow can weigh the soft top down as well as let the cold air seep through.  Because soft tops also have less insulation, they can be louder on the highway. This is something to really consider if you will be driving your jeep somewhere far or on the daily basis.

Hard Top 

Cons: Hard to remove, requires more space for storage

Hard tops are much heavier and can be hard to remove especially if you don’t have anyone to help you. Removing a hard top is usually a two-person job unless you purchase Jeep top hoist then you can actually remove it by yourself. While hard tops can last for the life of the vehicle, they do cost more than soft tops and can be expensive if you need to replace them. Also since hard tops don’t fold down as soft tops do, you’ll need to make sure you have enough storage in your garage for when you do decide to go topless.
